| ENERGY EFFICIENT LIGHTING - THE FACTS Retro-fit energy saving lamps All light fittings with a bayonet or screw cap will, theoretically, accept energy saving lighting. The limiting factor is the size of the lamp. Throughout this store we have endeavored to show the fittings that will take energy saving lamps without impairing the aesthetic qualities of the light. We have listed the maximum possible wattage for each fitting, but this is generally dictated only by the physical size of the lamp. A lesser wattage can be used if required i.e. if a 20W E27 TC-TE lamp is shown in our table, this could be replaced by a 9W, 11W, or 15W as required. Equivalent tungsten output figures are listed below. Similarly, as technology moves on and sizes reduce, it may be possible to fit a higher wattage than stated. Energy saving lighitng candle, golfbalC'and GLS style lamps are now available and we have put a logo, as shown opposite, on the pages where these lamps are suitable. Dedicated energy saving fittings Throughout this catalogue various model numbers are suffixed with the letters LE or EL, indicating that the fitting can be supplied in energy efficient lighting energy versions, and the maximum wattage and applicable lamp types are shown. LE denotes that the control gear is 'electro-magnetic' and EL denotes 'electronic' control gear. Both are supplied with lamp where stated. Unlike retro-fit lamps, the lamps are generally nol interchangeable although it is often possible to have an alternative ballast and lampholder fitted to accommodate a lesser wattage lamp. Most energy effiicientt lighitng fittings are compliant with Building Regulations Part L1 ;now mandatory for new homes, when low loss gear is included and lamp is supplied, as required by the Energy Saving Trust. There have been many changes to compact fluorescent lamp technology and its associated control gear. Therefore it is likely that, during the life of this catalogue, further changes may occur. Our customer service department can advise you of the current developments in energy efficient lighting and assist with any queries you may have. IMPORTANT: Light fittings using energy efficient lighting lamps are not suitable for dimming. The tables below give a comparison between the wattage, light output and average life of various compact fluorescent lamps and general service tungsten lamps. ![]() |
